Advocates For Children CEO Resigns

Karen White, who was appointed CEO in 2016, has accepted a new opportunity in the for-profit sector.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Cartersville-based Advocates for Children will soon be in the market for a new president and CEO. That's because Karen White, who currently holds the position, has announced she will resign from the organization, effective March 9.

Advocates for Children's Board of Directors said White will take a new opportunity in the for-profit sector, the members said Wednesday.

“It has been a privilege to serve the organization for over 10 years, initially as a volunteer and later as personnel," White said in a statement provided by the organization. "I have been given many opportunities for growth and advancement, and I am grateful for the agency’s investment in my professional development. More importantly, being a part of the daily lives of our children and making every effort to improve their circumstances has brought me immense joy."

White became president and CEO in 2016, following in the footsteps of Patty Eagar, who retired from the position. Over the last two years, White has attained many accomplishments, such as rolling out internal controls, building an effective team and strengthening the nonprofit organization's finances. She also played a critical role in the continued development and success of the organization, Advocates said.

"While she and her inspiring leadership will be missed by the board and organization, we wish her the best of luck," the board added.

The Board of Directors will begin its search to find a new president and CEO and during the transition period, its members said it will work to find the best person to lead the organization "while still maintaining a stable and effective organization for its employees and the community."

“The Board of Directors cannot thank Karen enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation she has given Advocates for Children over the past 10 years," Board Chair Tina Hudson added. "She will be greatly missed by the staff, Board members and community partners alike. The Board looks forward to following the success of her career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of Advocates for Children as we continue in our mission to strengthen our community of families by offering safety, comfort and hope to children and preventing child abuse in all its forms."
