Angelo's Gets Perfect Score On Food Service Inspection
At least 25 staff members were trained or retrained on safe food-handling procedures following a salmonella outbreak that sickened dozens.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The restaurant at the center of the salmonella food poisoning outbreak reported earlier this month at a catering event appears to be making strides in restoring order to its operations. Angelo's New York Style Pizza & Bistro in Cartersville has received a perfect score on its Nov. 28 food service inspection conducted by the Bartow County Environmental Health Department.
The restaurant voluntarily closed after the Georgia Department of Public Health began investigating reports of foodborne illnesses among Toyo Tire employees who ate food catered by Angelo's at an employee catering event held Nov. 14-15. Five people were hospitalized and dozens were treated at area medical facilities in connection with the outbreak.
Lab tests revealed the cause of the illnesses to be salmonella, and the state said it's continuing its investigation to determine what specific food was tainted with the bacteria.

"This facility will be on a 30-day follow up for the next three to four months to ensure the continuation of proper food handling procedures," the inspector wrote. Another follow-up inspection is planned for Dec. 30.
Angelo's also express gratitude to its customers who returned to the establishment to enjoy a meal following a tumultuous week.
"We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who came out yesterday and supported us as we reopened," it said Tuesday on its Facebook page. "Your kindness and positivity is overwhelming. We couldn't do this without you!"
