Salter, 30, a language arts teacher, did not show up for work Monday morning, prompting concerns for his whereabouts, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office previously told Patch.

Family members reported Salter's disappearance to the Bartow County Sheriff just before 10 a.m. March 7. His car, a white Toyota Avalon, was located at the Cooper Furnace Trail entrance on S.R. 20 Spur. It was the trail where Salter reportedly enjoyed hiking, the sheriff's office said.

The agency, along with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, FBI and Cartersville Police Department launched a search Monday afternoon for Salter.

Just after 6 p.m., a Georgia State Patrol helicopter notified ground units of a possible location of the missing man in "a secluded rough terrain area off the trails," the sheriff's office added. Sheriff's deputies and DNR officers subsequently located Salter's body.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he had died from accidental injuries. According to his obituary, the family asks everyone who attends the service to wear black shirts and pants with a bright color tie, which is what Salter usually wore to work.

Salter, the son of Gil and Connie Salter, was born Feb. 10, 1986, in Lawrenceville. He graduated from Cass and later completed his studies at Kennesaw State University with a degree in education.

His obituary states he taught for five years at Cass High School.

"His students were the light of his world and he worked relentlessly to help them succeed," his obituary states. "In his spare time he loved to spend time outdoors hiking and camping with his family. He was an introvert at heart, but had a great love and respect to all those who were close to him. He is already greatly missed, but will never be forgotten."

Salter is survived by his parents; brother, John Salter of Kennesaw; sister, Joy Salter of Cartersville; aunts and uncles, Tommy (Pam) Stuck of Memphis, Tenn., Glen (Dryden) Salter of Stone Mountain, Gary (Linda) Salter of Alpharetta, Jean and Robert Fuller of Athens and Joy and Tim Brantley of Warner Robins; and a host of cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made at Bank of the Ozarks in Cartersville to The Etowah Foundation, Scott Allen Salter Scholarship Fund.
