Interim Executive Director Named For Advocates For Children

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A familiar face around Bartow County has been named the interim executive director of Cartersville-based Advocates for Children. Patrick Nelson, community redevelopment coordinator with the county, will serve on a temporary basis while the organization searches for a permanent president and CEO.

Nelson will fill the role vacated with the resignation of Karen White. Advocates for Children Board of Trustee members officially welcomed Nelson to the organization at their meeting this morning.

The search for a permanent CEO is expected to take up to six months. Board members have contracted with Janet Tharp of J&L Advisors to lead the search (For more news like this, find your local Patch here. Nelson has deep ties to the organization; his mother, Terry Nelson, was Advocates’ first executive director. Nelson is engaged in the local community and has a strong background in the nonprofit arena, currently serving as chairman of the Cartersville Bartow Community Foundation, Bartow Collaborative and BLESS Coalition and president of the Rotary Club of Etowah.

Nelson is a native of Bartow County and lives in the county with his wife, Bree, and their two sons, Colin and Hollis. Thanks to the support of County Commissioner Steve Taylor, Nelson will continue in his role with Bartow County while serving as the interim executive director of Advocates.
