Community Day at Spelman Museum: Tours, Scavenger Hunt, and More
A day for friends, families, and loved ones to explore the Museum, move and create together

The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art presents a day for the community to thoroughly enjoy the beauties of the Museum through a series of events from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The schedule includes three interactive tours of the Deborah Roberts: The Evolution of Mimi exhibit. It also includes BLOOM: A Visual Unfurling of Light Portraits, which is a free community portrait series inspired by work of Deborah Roberts and celebrates the multifaceted beauty within the African Diaspora. Facilitated by photographer Melissa Alexander, BLOOM simply presents a reminder that beauty is inclusive, accessible to all, and can be found within.
Community Day will highlight a Pop Up Library organized by the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System that features books and other resources inspired by Deborah Roberts: The Evolution of Mimi. Participants will be able to check out the resources, receive a library card and partake in a custom button making workshop.
The event will also feature Moving Our Stories facilitated by Dr. Julie B. Johnson, lecturer in Spelman's Dance Performance & Choreography department. The community is invited to explore how memory and storytelling live and move in our bodies. Attendees will have a chance to move through the Museum exhibit along with Atlanta cellist and composer Okorie Johnson and dance artists and find connections with the exhibition and their own physical realities.
