Griffin resident Nathan Duffey, RN at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern), is a recent recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Driven by his passion of helping others in need, Duffey exemplifies CTCA’s patient-centered care model and does everything in his power to improve his patients’ lives.
“It’s a great honor to win such a prestigious award in the nursing field,” said Duffey. “Taking care of others, showing them love and compassion and being a patient advocate are all parts of my job. To be recognized in this capacity is very humbling. To me, the DAISY Award encourages all of us to keep doing our jobs to the best of our abilities, even on the most difficult days,” said Duffey.
The award is given by the DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit based in Glen Allen, Calif., which was established to memorialize J. Patrick Barnes, a Hodgkin’s Disease survivor who passed away at the age of 33 after being admitted to the hospital for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), a rare auto-immune disease. Patrick’s family, who was impressed with the caliber of the nursing staff, started the DAISY Foundation to recognize these amazing nurses and keep his memory alive. CTCA at Southeastern is one of over 1,900 healthcare facilities that honor their nurses with the DAISY Award.
