Spelman College will host a book talk with Dr. Aisha M. Beliso-De Jesús

Spelman College will host a book talk with Dr. Aisha M. Beliso-De Jesús’, author of Electric Santería: Racial and Sexual Assemblages of Transnational Religion at 5p.m., Monday, Nov. 23.

De Jesús, an associate professor of African American Religions at Harvard Divinity School and a cultural-social anthropologist, has conducted ethnographic research with Santería (a religion of Caribbean origin) practitioners in Cuba and the United States since 2003. She will discuss the emergence and evolution of Santeria as well as perceptions of the religion as satanic or frightening to emphasize its depth, breadth, reach and growing appeal to people around the world.

A book signing and reception will follow the book talk.
