CINDY The Musical Returns to the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center February 17th-18th

CINDY The Musical, produced by Emmy Nominated Producer/Director/Choreographer/Songwriter and Playwright, Stepp Stewart, returns to the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center February 17th -18th in concert with the African American Philharmonic Orchestra. The entire family is welcome to attend. Tickets are $30.
This musical fairytale set in Harlem 1943, tells the story of Cindy, who is reunited with her father after traveling from down south to meet her new stepmother and sisters. She quickly finds herself in a house full of mean spirited relatives who don't give her the reception she is expecting. Cindy rises above bullying and low self-esteem as she never stops believing in love and happiness. Based on the 1978 television special of the same name, Cindy is a different kind of Cinderella story now adapted for the stage.

New this year boys have been added to the Princess Ball making it The Prince and Princess Sugar Hill Ball brought to you by Cindy The Musical on Saturday, February 18th at 5 p.m. in The Black Box Sugar Hill Ballroom inside the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center. Boys and girls should dress to impress for a fun-filled evening. Tickets are $25.00 per person for the Ball only. The Prince & Princess Ball & Cindy The Musical Show combo is $45.00 per person. At the Ball there will be food, drinks, music, dancing, photo opportunities, and meet Cindy in person. There will also be a tea sipping area, slipper fittings, and more.
Members of the cast of Cindy The Musical are: Dri Jack as Cindy, Avis LaShawn as The Wicked Stepmother, LaMonte Williams as Cindy's Father, Jamie Moreen as The Chauffer, Jajuan Glasper as Captain Joe Prince, Danette Sheppard (from New York) as an evil Stepsister, Doreka Gans as an evil Stepsister, and Ronda Reese Heaggans as The Fairy Godmother, including an ensemble of dancers and singers.

About the African American Philharmonic Orchestra
The African-American Philharmonic Orchestra (AAPO) was founded in 1989 to provide a showcase for professional musicians and composers of African American descent in the Atlanta area. John T. Peek is the Music Director for the African-American Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale as well as The African-American Jazz Orchestra. Mr. Peek is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School: he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction from Clark College, now known as Clark Atlanta University. He studied under the direction of Waymon Carver and Dr. J. Dekoven Killingworth. Mr. Peek also studied trumpet with Max Friedentard (first Chair) Trumpeter with the show "Oklahoma," studied conducting at the Conductors Institute, Columbia S.C. University School of Music. He holds professional memberships in the Trumpet Guild of America, The National Black Music Caucus and is a Board Member of American Federation of Musicians Union 148-462. Mr. Peek is married to Carrie Whaley-Peek, who along with musician and composer Tommy Stewart are organizers of Music South Corporation.
