If you are planning to join millions of other travelers nationwideΒ in hitting the roads this Thanksgiving weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)Β has an app that just might help make your travels easier.
The GA 511 app is available for iPhone and Android. The free app provides real time travel information and allows users to transfer to 511 systems in surrounding states. GA 511 also offers a mobile version of its website for those who do not wish to download the app.Β YouΒ can also follow GA 511 on Twitter atΒ @NaviGAtor511Β or on Facebook atΒ Georgia NaviGAtor 511.
The notice on the 511 website states that Thursday through Saturday are expected to be light travel days, but GDOT advises motorists to watch for congestion around malls and shopping centers.
On Sunday, GDOT advises: "The annual hot-spot is I-75 Northbound coming back from Florida. Try to avoid hitting the Macon-to-Atlanta stretch between noon and 6 pm. Most other Georgia roadways should be heavy but moving, barring any major accidents."
Have you used the GA 511 app? What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments.
