Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:
- After a 12-year run, Law & Order: SVU actress and Cumming native Kelli Giddish is departing from the show. Giddish, 42, played Det. Amanda Rollins. She said that she's been so fortunate to be part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years and that playing Rollins has been one of the "greatest joys and privileges of her life." Giddish attended Forsyth Central High School, according to Wikipedia. (Daily Mail)
- Ready for some family fun? The Cumming Art Fest 2022 will take place Sept. 17 and 18 at the new Cumming City Center, 423 Canton Road. Presented by Forsyth Herald, there will be children's activities, festival eats, artists, games and more. (Forsyth Herald).
- The 29th Annual Auto Crusade Car Show and Autocross will be in Cumming this weekend at the Cumming Fairgrounds. The charity event benefits families in need at Christmas and other church-related activities. There will be a DJ, concessions, homemade ice cream and of course beautiful trucks and cars to look at, both old and new. Auto Crusade Car Show started in 1994 as a single day event with 54 cars at Forsyth Central High School. Twenty-nine years later, it is a multi-day event. This includes Autocross during the day and a Cruise-In at night on Friday and features another day of Autocross and the annual Car Show on Saturday. (GSRA)
- Forsyth County Government will host a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. to celebrate upgrades and new amenities at Midway Park. Improvements and additions to the park include new inclusive and accessible playground, laser grading and new sod on diamond fields, new batting cages and bullpens, a new pavilion and more. - Week 2 of Friday Night lights kicks off tonight with some key matchups around the county. Ranked No.9 in Class 5A, Cambridge (1-0) will head to Denmark (0-1). Forsyth Central (1-0), who lost last year to North Forsyth 23-0, will be looking for revenge as they host the Raiders (0-1). Entering its second season, East Forsyth (0-0) will host Seckinger (0-1). Dawson County (1-0) will play Lambert (1-0) at The Horn in a battle of two undefeated teams. Calvary Christian (0-1) heads to Pinecrest (1-0). South Forysth (1-0) travels to Kennesaw to take on Harrison (0-1). Lastly, Marietta (0-1) heads to West Forsyth (1-0) in an inaugural meeting between the two teams. (Forsyth County News)
