CUMMING, GA — If you're thinking about adding a fluffy little friend to your life, Forsyth County wants to help you double the joy.

The Forsyth County Animal Shelter currently has more than 150 cats and kittens in need of homes. As such, the shelter is offering a special promotion to encourage people to adopt not one cat, but two.

Through Oct. 31, the shelter is letting people adopt two cats for $85 — the usual fee for the adoption of one.

"Most cats do really well in pairs," said animal shelter manager Cindy Iacopella. "They are often great playmates and help to keep one another entertained, which can be an especially important consideration for adopters who are at work during the day."

Many of the adult cats available for adoption have been in the shelter’s care for six months or longer and shelter staff members are eager to find them permanent homes.

"This is one of the times of year when the feline population increases, so we want to do our best to find loving homes for them all," Iacopella said.

And, if you hurry, you won't even have to worry about the $85.

Through a grant from Maddie's Fund, a foundation working to insure every dog and cat finds a good home, the shelter is waiving the adoption fee entirely for the first 20 people to take advantage of the 2-for-1 special.

In addition to seeking homes for all of the animals in their care, the Forsyth County Animal Shelter is always looking for volunteers, those willing to foster animals and donations of items such as pet food, toys and bedding.

The animal shelter is located just off of Ga. 400 at 4065 County Way in northern Forsyth County. For more information, call 678-965-7185 or visit the shelter's website or Facebook page. It is open for adoptions from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
