28 Forsyth County High Schoolers Recognized in Lanier Tech Nurse Aide Program

Twenty-eight Forsyth County high school students, who were dual enrolled at Lanier Technical College, were recognized in a ceremony at the College's Forsyth Campus. The Forsyth high school seniors attended and completed the Certified Nurse Aide program at the College's Forsyth Campus.  The NA course of study is a rigorous college-level program, and upon successful completion, the Forsyth County HS/Lanier Tech students can take the State of Georgia license exam.

When these students walk across the stage for their high school graduations, they will have already jump-started their careers and college education by completing 4 college courses for 13 credit hours. On June 7, these Forsyth High School students will graduate with a certificate in Nurse Aide from Lanier Technical College.

The recognized students represented North Forsyth High School, South Forsyth High School, Lambert High School, West Forsyth High School, and the Forsyth Academy.  All students were from Forsyth County Schools.

In the Dual Enrollment program students earned both high school and college credit for the CNA college classes taken during their senior of their high schools. Students have taken courses in Diet Nutrition, Medical Terms, Patient Care, and Nurse Aide Fundamentals. Additionally, the students put their studies to practical use and spent several weeks in a nursing home working with patients. The NA students took vital signs, fed patients, brushed patient teeth, etc. and provided high quality care and smiles to the residents.

The ceremony had a "full-house" of many family, friends, and teachers.  Dr. Joanne Tolleson, Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Donna Brinson, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Forsyth Campus, along with the College's CNA Instructors, Pam Boles, Linda Grogan, and Sherry Kimbrell welcomed the students back to "their" college campus.
