Author Elizabeth Cooke Recalls Life in the Hamptons In Her New Novel, “Violet Rose”

The book is subtitled "The Encroaching Sea," a metaphor for the love/hate turbulence in the lives of the characters in a resort town.

Elizabeth Cooke, an award-winning author who lived on the East End of Long Island for many years and now resides in Cumming, announces the publication of her novel, “Violet Rose.” Set in Westhampton Beach, the new book is the first volume of the “The Rose Trilogy.” Long Island’s East End will also provide the backdrop for the second book, “Starfish,” as well as the third book in the series, “Violet.”

With a subtitle, “The Encroaching Sea,” the ocean itself is a metaphor for the love/hate turbulence in the lives of the characters. In addition to real danger, many of them are threatened by anguish of the heart. “Violet Rose” also depicts the palpable animosity that frequently exists between summer visitors and local residents in a resort town.

Born and bred in New York City, Elizabeth Cooke is a graduate of Vassar College and the Sorbonne. She has written 13 books, which include a memoir called “Life Savors” and several books based on her experiences at a Paris hotel. “There’s a Small Hotel” was the winner for General Fiction at the 2015 Paris Book Festival and “Intrigue at a Small Hotel” won the grand prize at the 2016 Paris Book Festival.
