Body Of Missing Forsyth Man Found In Lake Lanier: FCSO

The body of a 56-year-old Forsyth County man who has been missing since June was found Sunday, along with his van, submerged in Lake Lanier.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — The body and van of a missing Forsyth County man was found Sunday submerged in Lake Lanier, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.

On Sunday at 4:18 p.m., the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department responded to a 911 call to the end of Beaver Ruin Road at Lake Lanier regarding a submerged van.

The Forsyth County Fire Department Dive Team entered the lake and confirmed the van was from a missing person case from June 6.

Once the 2002 Dodge Caravan was removed from the lake, officials were able to preliminary confirm that the missing person, Van Dobbs, 56, from Forsyth County, was deceased in the vehicle and appeared to be wearing the same clothes as when he was last seen.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office had conducted an extensive search for Dobbs during the summer and fall including aerial and marine searches around Lake Lanier with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division. Foul play is not suspected at this time.

The body has been transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab an autopsy.
