Love Your Wild Birds

Who can resist having a bird feeder near a window or a special place in your yard where you can watch your wild birds every day?

Who can resist having a bird feeder near a window or a special place in your yard where you can watch your wild birds every day? This year when we participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count, we recorded 28 different species at the feeders in our yard alone! The most unusual was a hermit thrush.

For the past 6 weeks or so, our 3 feeders have been empty by mid-afternoon. Now, things are slowing down as the male birds have taken on their brilliant mating colors, and we're seeing more pairs come to the feeders.

It's time to start looking for nests and - soon - baby birds. We know that our pair of Barred Owls once again have a nest with at least one baby in our yard. Last year it was in a large beech tree, but so far we haven't located the nest this year. I've posted a photo of one of the adults. They're often just hanging around in a tree near our screened porch.

If you need a bird feeder, whether of a general or specific nature, please visit our online store at www.WildBirdGoodies.com. We have hundreds from which to choose, and they aren't the ones you'll typically find locally.

Happy Birdwatching!
