The Alexandra Feodorovna Emerald Tiara

Tiara Tuesday

Happy Tiara Tuesday!  This week’s tiara, The Alexandra Feodorovna Emerald Tiara, hails from the Romanov’s fabulous collection in Russia!

Alexandra was the last empress consort of Russia, married to Tsar Nicholas II until their assassination in 1918 with the Russian Revolution.  Alexandra was born Princess Alix of Hesse, daughter of  Princess Alice and granddaughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert (of the Victorian Era).

The tiara dates back to about 1900, created by Bolin, and is encrusted with diamonds and stunning Colombian emeralds.  The tiara features light, whimsical bows and flourishes, which were very popular in the Edwardian Era during the early twentieth century.  Bodarevsky painted her in this tiara in 1907.  Fabergé made a stunning devant-de-corsage brooch to match the tiara.

Unfortunately, the current location of this tiara is unknown.  After the Russian Revolution, it remained in Russia, and in 1925 it was part of the imperial jewels that were collected and photographed for inventory purposes by the Soviets.  In 1927 most of the jewels were auctioned off around the globe.  We can only hope this stunning tiara will reappear on some glamorous occasion in the future!

Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day!
