Change the World - Thank a Teacher!

As the end of the school year approaches, it’s important for us to remember the wonderful educators who have helped guide our children over the last nine months.  As kids, it’s not surprising that we often fail to notice all of the hard work that goes into our education; however, as we’ve grown, so too has our understanding of what makes teachers so great.

1.) THEY DON’T ACCEPT FAILURE—All of us can probably remember a youthful moment when we wanted to throw in the towel, but the beauty of an amazing educator is that they generally try a myriad of strategies to help students learn.  Simply knowing that a teacher believes in your child can make all the difference in whether your young one succeeds.

2.) THEY CARE—While cliché, there is truth behind the idea that teachers are kind people.  Educators love their students, even the ones who are hard to love—and sometimes, especially the ones who are hard to love.

3.) THEY’RE POSITIVE—It’s no secret that being a teacher is an incredibly trying job; however, while challenging, most educators enter the classroom knowing that they can be amazing every day.

4.) THEY’RE CREATIVE—Yes, classrooms are designed for learning, but a great teacher is adaptable.  They can not only teach in a multitude of different environments—playground, hallway, lunchroom—but they are also capable of helping students learn in a million different ways.

5.) THEY WORK HARD—Teaching isn’t your average cubicle job.  Educators don’t simply show up and sit behind a desk all day.  Instead, they are on their feet while talking, thinking, interacting, and learning for hours on end.  It’s no surprise that the corporate world may not understand, but teachers are busy people who miss out on returning phone calls and emails because there’s never a shortage of teaching to be done.

In the end, the brilliant people who educate your children deserve a thank you for everything they do.  In the grand scheme of things, their influence extends far beyond instilling an understanding of math concepts and history—educators actually help students determine their place in the world.
