Crime Trend Alert At Local Gyms: Forsyth County Sheriff's Office

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has seen a rise in crime at local gyms.

CUMMING, GA — The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office put out some tips to help protect property while training at your local fitness facility because they say they've seen these types of crimes on the rise.

  • Make sure that your vehicles are locked while you train. As the weather gets nicer more theft from vehicles is occurring.
  • Hide all valuables that are inside your vehicle. This includes the Green-Way trails where you will leave your vehicle for a good amount of time. Thieves will force entry through the window if they see electronics, money or a purse/bag.
  • If you place your things in a locker at the gym use a lock. If possible use your own lock in which you are the only one who has the key or combination. If you can leave your wallet and other valuables in your vehicle trunk that would be the best idea. We are seeing more cases come along where the victim leaves their property in the locker and by the time they finish their workout the credit/debit card(s) have already been used.

  • If you want to bring your money, cards or cell phone, think about wearing a wrist wallet or bag of some sort to that is attached to you while you train.
  • If you see something, say something. It doesn't matter if you are on the Green-Way or in the gym, if you see suspicious people around call law enforcement or alert the staff to look into it. If you are unsure and it is not an emergency, you can call the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 770-781-3087.
