🌱Cumming Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident + Parks Dept. Receives Grant

Here are the top three stories in Cumming today:

  1. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal wreck that left 31-year-old Andrew Perillo dead. The wreck occurred at the entrance of the Green Corners Shopping Plaza on Canton Highway around 10 p.m. Thursday. Perillo, of Cumming, was heading east on Highway 20 on his motorcycle, a 2021 Harley Davidson Softail, when a 2004 GMC Canyon, driven by a 16-year-old from Cumming, attempted to turn left into the shopping center and hit Perillo. Perillo was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was not injured and the accident is still under investigation by the FSCO Traffic Specialist Unit. (Forsyth County News Online)
  2. A Forsyth County CEO and a trainer at South Forsyth High School were appointed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to serve on various boards, councils and advisory positions across the state. William Carter Patterson is the CEO of Forte Data Systems, a software company located off Paddocks Parkway in Johns Creek, has been appointed to the Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority. This commission works to "ensure that Lake Lanier Islands continues to improve its market position as a resort destination." Patterson is also the owner of Cumming Cigar Company off East Main Street in downtown Cumming. Diane Green King was appointed to the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers, a commission that deals with licenses and applications for athletic trainers and prospective applicants in the state.   3. The Forsyth County Parks & Rec Department received a $48,000 grant from the Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time (BOOST) Grants Program to expand therapeutic recreation program offerings in the county. Through Therapeutic Recreation, Forsyth County Parks & Rec offers programs for individuals with specific needs in order to develop leisure and recreation skills, enhance socialization, independence and overall quality of life. Funding for the BOOST grant comes from the American Rescue Plan. The program is administered by the Georgia Department of Education in partnership with the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network (GSAN) and the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA).
