Deputy Struck by Car Recovering Following Surgery

A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy who was struck by a car while directing traffic outside an elementary school has had a successful surgery but will be out of action for a while.

Deputy Anthony “Tony” Hodgkins was struck and seriously injured by a car while directing traffic in front of Coal Mountain Elementary School on Monday morning. He was taken to the hospital for serious but non life-threatening injuries. Kimberly Starr, organizer of a fundraiser for Hodgkins and his family, says that the deputy suffered a broken jaw in the collision.

The driver who hit Hodgkins remained on the scene following the accident.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday morning that Hodgkins underwent successful surgery and was released from the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office also noted the outpouring of support Hodgkins has received since the incident.
