Hello all. Phil Giltman here with your fresh copy of the Cumming Daily, filled with all the local information you need to know right now. Here goes.

First, today's weather:

Humid; a stray p.m. t-storm. High: 91 Low: 73.

Fun fact: July 22 is National Mango Day!

Here are the top three stories today in Cumming:

  1. Cumming native Connor Moore is back for his third year with the South Carolina Stingrays. The Stingrays, who play out of North Charleston, are a minor league hockey team and East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals. Last year, Moore had two goals and 23 assists, scoring his first professional goal on Nov. 13 against Orlando. He served as an alternate captain for a portion of the 2021-22 season. Prior to joining the Stingrays in 2020, Moore, 25, spent four seasons at Boston College, helping lead the Eagles to two Hockey East regular-season championships. Moore appeared in 139 games from 2016-20, scoring nine goals and recording 36 assists. (Our Sports Central)
  2. A new development located between Highway 9 and Veteran's Memorial Boulevard will offer discounted rent for law enforcement members after an agreement was struck at Tuesday's Cumming City Council meeting. Council members voted 4-0, with Councilman Christopher Light recused, to amend a zoning condition for The Foundry at Mashburn Village. The agreement states it will provide discounted rent for up to five of the development's units to police officers. Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow is hoping more developers will do the same. The Foundry at Mashburn Village will include 193,000 square feet of total retail, 320 rental units, 85 single-family homes, and 31 townhome units. City Attorney Kevin Tallant added language to the agreement to ensure the discount would stay even if the development was sold. (Forsyth County News)
  3. Former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe, 105 E. Main Street in Woodstock July 29 at 4 p.m. discussing his book, "Defeating Big Government Socialism." Tickets can be purchased online. Gingrich will speak briefly, personalize book signings and sit for photos as time permits. He served as the 50th Speaker of the House from 1995 to 1999. (Fox Tale Book Shoppe)
