Ever See a Cow in a Pink Tutu? Well Save the Horses Has One.
Rosie, the cow that thinks that she's a horse!
Save the Horses is a rescue based in Cumming GA that rescues and rehabilitates horses. Among them, is a loving and beloved cow named Rosie. Yes, I said a cow!
Rosie was raised as a pet and when the owner lost her farm, a safe place was needed for her. You see, the owner did not want Rosie to become someone's dinner so she searched for a sanctuary where Rosie would be spared from slaughter.
When she approached Cheryl Flanagan, Director of Save the Horses, Cheryl admitted that she was skeptical. She had spent her life rescuing horses and other animals such as goats, pigs, chickens, sheep, turkeys, ducks and dogs, but she had never been asked to save a cow.

"I was not even sure what they ate!" said Cheryl and she wondered if Rosie would fit in the pasture with the more than 50 horses. But Cheryl, who can never turn her back on saving an animal, said yes and was put at ease a little when the owner said that Rosie was a miniature cow.
Well the day came when Rosie arrived and a gorgeous black cow stepped off the trailer but to everyone's amazement, that gorgeous cow was no miniature! Maybe in cow standards she was but to Cheryl and her volunteers, they had to quickly figure out how to get Rosie acclimated to a farm where she was the only species of her kind.

"We brought her out to the pasture," said Cheryl "and we did not know what to expect. The horses encircled her and just stared. They had no idea what she was." But they quickly accepted Rosie into their family. That was in 2013 and now she lives and pretty much rules the pasture. "She knows if a new horse arrives" says Cheryl. "She'll square off and act like a bull to check them out in 'her' pasture. But she quickly accepts them. She really is a sweetie."
Rosie Has Convinced People Not to Eat Meat
Rosie loves people and when she is not in the pasture, she is being lead to the barn by a child eager to groom her or she is in her special-made pink tutu, ready to greet guests at various fundraising events. Because she is so gentle and loving, several visitors and volunteers have sworn never to eat beef again!
The public is invited to come out and meet Rosie and the other animals that call Save the Horses home. The rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that does not receive any funding from state or local agencies. They rely on donations from the public.
Rosie's Secret Santa Wish List
One of their fundraisers is the Secret Santa Wish List where their animals have created a list of items that they need for the holidays. Visit Rosie's list at the following link. Gifts are from $5 and 100% goes to the rescue and is tax deductible.
