Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. Members of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit attended the annual Golden Shield Awards Ceremony presented by MADD Georgia (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). FCSO took second place, with over 1,100 DUIs in 2021. Several deputies were honored for their outstanding efforts in combating impaired driving. (Forsyth County Sheriff's Office)
  2. 247Sports took its second annual trip to GBCA's Live Period event, and National Analyst Brandon Jenkins noted the top talent from day one. West Forsyth's Will Moore established himself as the best shooter on the court against Wheeler. The players were evaluated in front of several national programs like Florida State, Georgia Tech, and UCF. (247Sports)
  3. Cumming, GA's Jonathan Macdonald made the Men's Top 10 in the 48th Mayor's Marathon on Saturday. Competitors came from all over the globe to run the 26.2-mile race in Anchorage, AK. New York's Diego Vanegas took the win for the men's race, and Alaska's Ilana Schnaufer won the women's race. (Anchorage Daily News)
  4. Forsyth County Master Naturalists are keeping an eye on Eastern Bluebirds with the Bluebird Trail boxes. The boxes were developed by the 2010 class of Forsyth County Extension Master Naturalists as a citizen science project. The goal was to encourage eastern bluebirds to return to the area they fled during the land disturbance associated with the creation of the Fowler Park. (Forsyth County News)
  5. Authorities searched near Holiday Marina for an Atlanta man who went overboard on Saturday. The Department of Natural Resources expanded its search for the man, identified as Kaiyan Ding, on Sunday with no findings. They promise to continue the search "until all options have been exhausted." (Gainesville Times)

  • Public hearings for the Foster Forsyth 2022 planning effort are scheduled for Jun. 28 and July 7, where the county will present the drafted plan update and allow for public feedback.
