Former U.S. Marine Corps Reservist Earns His Own

'An excellent employee' promoted to Assistant Area Engineer for three north Georgia counties.

In a statement issued by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recently, Doug Wood was named Assistant Area Engineer for Construction in Forsyth, Dawson and Hall Counties as of August 15. Wood is now responsible for all construction projects on more than 300 centerline miles of State Routes and Interstates in his area and will supervise 20 employees. 

The Banks County resident began his career with the GA DOT as an Engineering Technician in 1996 and has worked in construction management in Forsyth County as project manager on the widening of State Route 20 and State Route 141.

“Doug is an excellent employee. He knows how to work with contractors and strives for excellence in everything he does,” explained DOT District Engineer, Todd McDuffie. “Now he will focus not on just one project but on many projects under construction in Dawson, Forsyth and Hall Counties.”

Currently Georgia is the sixth fastest growing state in the nation and ranks 49 in per capita spending on transportation.  

McDuffie went on to say “I am confident he will manage the construction projects well. Together with his leadership and work ethic, he is an asset to the Department of Transportation and Citizens of Georgia.”

Wood, a former United States Marine Corps reservist also served with the United States Navy. He and his wife Austine are the parents of a son and two daughters and live in Maysville. 

According to the Georgia DOT Web site, the organization is “committed to providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment.”
