Forsyth County: What's Open, Closed Amid Coronavirus Concerns
From businesses to governments, closures are being announced around Forsyth County often. Keep up to date with what is still open.
FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — With cases of the new coronavirus increasing daily in Georgia, cities around the state have closed businesses, government offices and cancelled events. See what is closed below, and let us know in the comments if we missed any closings.

CUMMING
- The City’s Recreation Department has extended the suspension of all rec programs through Sunday, April 12.
- The City of Cumming has suspended all activities and programs of the Cumming Recreation & Parks Department and closed facilities effective, Monday, March 16, for a minimum of two weeks. The main offices of the Recreation Department and of the Cumming Aquatic Center will remain open at this time. Rec Department offices are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and Aquatic Center offices are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For complete information, click here.
- All Cumming Fairgrounds events that were scheduled during the month of March have been canceled or postponed. Future events will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and future cancellations/postponements will be posted.
- As of Monday, March 16, all future scheduled meetings of the Cumming City Council and Planning & Zoning Boards will proceed as normal.
- City leaders have decided to restrict public access to all City of Cumming buildings and facilities effective March 18 to March 31.
- All departments will remain staffed and operational, but City business will be conducted by phone and electronically. Public access to City buildings will be restricted to appointments only and to absolutely necessary in-person meetings. - All in-person meetings are to be changed to phone or video conferencing, if at all possible.
- Citizen contact points will remain open via phone, email and the City’s Website
(www.cityofcumming.net/ask-a-question). - All Cumming Utility payments can be paid by phone, online or in the Utilities Night Deposit Box, located in the City Hall parking lot, across from the main entrance doors.
- The Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America has extended its deadline for submission of its annual college scholarships. With schools closed due to coronavirus concerns and some students without access to computers, the VVA has extended until April 30 its deadline for postmarking scholarship applications. Chapter 1030 will be awarding five $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors attending Forsyth County public and private high schools. Applications should be available at school guidance counselors’ offices or by contacting scholarship chairman Marty Farrell at martysyracuse@yahoo.com or by calling 770 500-7234. Scholarships are awarded to honor the service and sacrifice of Georgians killed in action during the Vietnam War.

- On Saturday, March 14, the Georgia Secretary of State announced that the March 24 Presidential Preference Primary has been postponed in light of the public health emergency posed by COVID-19. Click here for more information from the Secretary of State's Office.
All in-person Advance Voting for this election ended on Saturday, March 14 and will resume the end of April 2020. The Presidential Preference Primary has been rescheduled to be held on May 19 in conjunction with the General Primary and NonPartisan General Election scheduled for May 19. All votes already cast in person and all voted absentee by mail ballots returned for the March 24 Presidential Preference Primary will be counted. - Beginning Monday, March 16, Parks and Recreation community buildings will be closed and all scheduled meetings, rentals and activities cancelled at those locations. The facilities are planned to reopen on Monday, March 30.
- Beginning March 13, the county is postponing all non-essential meetings and activities. The Board of Commissioners will continue to have its regular meetings and public hearings, as well as meetings that are required due to ordinance processes. Monthly meetings by various boards, commissions and authorities are under review.
- Additionally, the following facilities will be closed through March 29, reopening on March 30:
- Senior Centers: Closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13
- Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center: Closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13.
- Recreation Centers: Closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13 All classes will be postponed or rescheduled. Program staff will communicate with participants on a case-by-case basis.
- The following public events will also be cancelled, or postponed, through March 29:
- Parks and Recreation Activities: Athletic complexes are closed, and all games are cancelled or postponed
- Public Information Open Houses: Matt Community Park, March 16 & 17 – postponed; Sawnee Mountain Preserve, March 26 – postponed
- Keep Forsyth County Beautiful: Great FoCo Cleanup, March 21 – postponed
- Senior Services: Senior Expo, April 18 – postponed
