Forsyth Deputies Offer 'Pokemon Go' Safety Tips

New video urges players to stay off of private property, be aware of their surroundings and not to play while driving.

CUMMING, GA -- They may not be able to tell you where to find a Pikachu.

But, in a new video, Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies offer some tips on how to stay safe, and on the right side of the law, while playing Pokemon Go.

Nintendo's augmented-reality game has taken the world by storm, as millions of players have downloaded it to their smartphones in the U.S. alone since its June 6 release.

But the game's real-world element -- it requires players to get out and move around to catch Pokemon and visit particular spots where they can earn virtual tools for the game -- has raised some safety concerns, too.

In the video, Forsyth deputies warn players to:

_ be mindful of your surroundings and other people nearby

_ stay off of private property

_ discuss safety with children who are playing, "or, better yet, go out with them and get some exercise."

_ never play while driving. "It's very dangerous and distracting and no Pokemon is worth a human life."

The sheriff's office shared the video Friday on Facebook, where it had been viewed more than 9,000 times in just over an hour. The office also confirmed that they've run into some issues where the game meets the real world.

"We may have had a few people ask to go inside courtrooms, the jail, etc.," the sheriff's office said in a reply to another comment on the post.
