Forsyth Deputy Shoots, Kills Man During Domestic Dispute Call
The GBI is Investigating a Forsyth County officer-involved shooting Tuesday where a man was killed during a domestic dispute call.

CUMMING, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating a Forsyth County officer-involved shooting Tuesday where a man was killed during a domestic dispute call.
The GBI was requested by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation in the area of Carbonne Court in Cumming, Georgia.
Preliminary information indicates that shortly before 10 p.m., a 911 call was made to the Forsyth County 911 Center. Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute at a residence on Carbonne Court. Upon arrival, officers determined that a physical altercation occurred between the female caller and the male subject, identified as Charles Spillers, 65, of Cumming. As officers entered the residence, deputies said they encountered Spillers brandishing a gun.

An officer fired at Spillers, striking him multiple times. As a result of his injuries, he died at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia.
Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit for review.
In a statement put out by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Ron Freeman requested the GBI to conduct an independent investigation and the scene was turned over to the GBI. The deputies, who were involved in the incident have been placed on routine paid administrative leave as this investigation continues. Any questions regarding this investigation should be directed to the GBI at this time.
