Forsyth Sheriff's Office Offers Free Law Enforcement Academy

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is offering a free Citizens' Law Enforcement Academy, starting March 19 and running for nine weeks.

CUMMING, GA — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is offering a free Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy, starting March 19 and running for nine weeks.

Each meeting will be held Mondays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Academy is open to all Forsyth County residents, employees, and business owners age 21 and over.

The academy provides students with hands-on training and law enforcement knowledge in a friendly environment, which closely follows some of the actual training that deputies undergo. All instructors in this program are FCSO employees. Topics include Constitutional law, conducting traffic stops, judgmental use of force, K9 and S.W.A.T. demonstrations, ride-alongs with deputies and much, much more.

"Our goal is to build a closer bond with the citizens and business owners of Forsyth County through communication and education," reads a post on the sheriff's Facebook page. "Take it from former students of the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy:
  • “What a fantastic class! I really have gained a great deal from all classes and ride-alongs—increased respect for law enforcement.”
  • “I enjoyed all of the classes. This experience has provided me with a much greater appreciation of the Sheriff’s Office’s important role in Forsyth County.”
  • “Enjoyed the ride alongs tremendously. It was interesting to observe from ‘the other side’.”
  • “Excellent hands-on presentation(s). This program helps to dispel the misconceptions garnered by the reality shows on TV. And it was FUN!”
