Forsyth Transportation Bond on Nov. 4 Ballot: Which Projects Are on the List?

If approved by voters, the county will issue up to $200 million in bonds to tackle several projects in Cumming and the rest of the county.

Forsyth County voters heading to the polls on Nov. 4 will get a chance to weigh in on the future of transportation in the county by voting on the proposed transportation bond.

If voters approve the measure, Forsyth County will issue up to $200 million in bonds meant to pay for road widenings, new roads, and other improvements. The county will repay the bonds over a 20 year period; a $250,000 home would see a $121 tax increase for the 20 year period the bonds are in repayment.

Of the proposed money, up to $81 million would be used in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to improve:

  • Ga. 400 from McFarland Parkway to at least Bald Ridge Marina Road
  • Post Road (SR 371) from Atlanta Highway to Kelly Mill Road
  • Innovative flow intersections at Browns Bridge Road and Ga. 400
  • Browns Bridge Road from Atlanta Road to Keith Bridge Road
  • McGinnis Ferry Road at Ga, 400 from Bethany Bend to Union Hill Road

The county would go it alone on several other projects, including extending Ronald Reagan Boulevard from Majors to Shiloh roads, then from Shiloh Road to McFarland Parkway. This project is estimated to cost $43 million.

  • Brookwood Road from SR 141 to McGinnis Ferry Road
  • McGinnis Ferry Road from Sargent to Union Hill roads
  • Pilgrim Mill Road from Cumming city limits to Freedom Parkway
  • Union Hill Road and Bridge from Ga. 400 to McFarland Parkway
  • Old Atlanta Road, first from St. Marlo to Old Atlanta Club, then from Old Atlanta Club to James Burgess Road

These projects are estimated to cost $63 million.

Several intersection improvements could be completed with the passage of the transportation bond, at a cost of around $10 million. The intersections include Matt Highway/Browns Bridge Road/SR 369 and:

  • Mount Tabor Road
  • Old Federal Road
  • Pooles Mill Road
  • Bus Field entrance
  • Little Mill Road

Keith Bridge Road’s intersection with Little Mill Road, the intersection of Dawsonville Highway and Dogwood Path, Ronald Reagan Boulevard at Peachtree Parkway, and Old Alpharetta Road at Peachtree Parkway are also on the potential projects list.

Ga. 400 at Jot-em-Down and Martin roads could also see a renovation, along with the intersections of Atlanta Highway and;

  • Campground Road
  • Smith Lane
  • Martin Road
