GBI Identifies Man Shot, Killed By Forsyth Deputy

The sheriff's office says the man was threatening deputies with a knife late Sunday night.

CUMMING, GA — State law enforcement officials have identified a man who was shot and killed by a Forsyth County deputy during a confrontation late Sunday night.

Jason Samuel Aldridge, 44, died from his injuries after being taken to Northside Forsyth Hospital, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced on Wednesday.

The sheriff's office says that Aldridge was threatening deputies with a knife.

Deputies were called at 11:22 p.m. to the Shady Grove RV Park located at 5560 Shady Grove Rd. in Cumming. The call was for a person with a knife who was showing suicidal behavior.

When they arrived, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says, they were confronted by a man with a knife.

Inside of the RV, he began to threaten the deputies and "one of the deputies was forced to fire his agency issued sidearm, striking the subject," according to the sheriff's office.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to independently review the shooting, as is typical in such cases.

Deputies involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave during that investigation.
