North GA, GA – Girls on the Run North GA announced today that Spring 2015 registration is now open. More than 400 “Girls on the Run” girls are expected to lace up this season with a twelve-week program that teaches life skills through energizing interactive lessons and running games, and culminates with a 5k celebration. This season, Girls on the Run participants and their families, will run in the Boulder Dash in Cumming, GA as their end of season celebration.

Girls on the Run sessions are held over a 12 week period and ends with a celebratory 5k run. The program meets two days a week for one hour and 15 minutes. Girls on the Run serves girls in 3rd-5th grade and Girls on Track serves girls in 6th-8th grade. All girls are encouraged to join the program regardless of previous running experience and level of physical fitness. We are a non-competitive program, that is designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical competencies, so girls can successfully navigate life experiences. The program is made possible by a dedicated coaching staff comprised exclusively of volunteers. Hosted at school sites around the North GA, the curriculum, developed by Girls on the Run International, is an interactive life-skills program that uses the power of running to change the way girls see themselves and their opportunities. This innovative health education and wellness program uniquely combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk event with life-changing, self-esteem enhancing lessons that encourage healthy habits and an active lifestyle. Girls learn to stretch themselves—physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally—and, in the process, are inspired to a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Each year Girls on the Run North GA identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 15 girls. Coaching is one of the most rewarding ways to be involved in our program. Coaches must be at least 18 years old. Parents, teachers, school administrators, college students, runners, non-runners and people who are committed to developing and celebrating our youth make great coaches.
