Hair, Jewelry And Dirty Hands: Cumming Country Club Fails Health Inspection

The snack bar at Polo Golf & Country Club scored a failing 68/U on a restaurant inspection on Friday.

CUMMING, GA — The snack bar at a country club in Cumming fell short of passing a health inspection during the past week.

The Polo Golf & Country Club, at 7000 Lancaster Cir., scored a 68/U on the inspection report from Friday.

Inspectors cited several problems with employees' training and how they were handling food. First, no one assigned to the restaurant had the proper food safety training, according to the report. That was listed as a repeat violation at the club

A person in charge told inspectors he or she would use their own certification for the snack bar while a sous chef received training.

A manager was seen checking food without washing hands, food that was seven-days old had not been discarded, an employee was not wearing anything to restrain hair while preparing food and a person in charge was wearing jewelry while working with food.

Workers preparing food may wear only a single-band ring, according to state regulations.

Also, chicken was found being stored at 120 degrees — 15 degrees below the recommended 135 degrees.

The snack bar had received a a 92/A during its last inspection, which was last June. In 2015, it earned an 80/B.

The facility will be inspected again on or before June 23, according to inspectors. If it doesn't score above a 70, it will have to shut down while problems are fixed.
