Here are the top four stories today in Cumming:

  1. To preserve the memory of the Holocaust and to promote public understanding of its history, Forsyth County Public Library, in partnership with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Georgia Public Library Service, is hosting a touring banner exhibit. Georgia's Response to the Holocaust: Survivors and Liberators is an exhibit that examines the stories of courage of Holocaust survivors and liberators who were or became Georgia citizens. The exhibit will be held at the Post Road Library, 5010 Post Road, Cumming today to August 22. (Forsyth County Library)
  2. Two North Forsyth Middle School students were named national champs for robotics at the 2022 National Technology Student Association Conference in Dallas, Texas back in late June. Arav Airi and Matthew Ferber took home first place in the TSA's VEX IQ Challenge for middle school students. In the competition, students are presented with an engineering problem in the form of a game where participants build creative, innovative robots with assistance from their teachers and teammates. The competition gives members the opportunity to challenge themselves in a fun and interactive game setting while engaging in a thought-provoking, multidisciplinary, STEM activity. 3. Accent Fence of Georgia has a new home. The new showroom and warehouse space, located at 5755 Goshen Spring Road in Norcross, will provide services for DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Cherokee, Forsyth, Barrow, Hall, and Jackson counties. Accent Fence of Georgia is a Blue Ribbon Contractor awarded by the American Fence Association. It had been serving customers for over 20 years. (PR Web)
  4. A hiker died Sunday after falling from a remote area in northern Dawson County. Officials from Dawson County Fire & EMS, with assistance from other local agencies, responded to a report of a male hiker who had fallen from Bearden Falls at 12:43 p.m., according to a DCFES press release. Bearden Falls rests along a creek inside of the Chattahoochee National Forest and is one of multiple falls located in Dawson County. Rescue personnel from Dawson and Forsyth counties arrived to the scene around 2:22 PM, at which time the incident changed into a recovery of the person. The incident appears to be accidental in nature and no foul play is expected, according to the DCFES report. (Dawson County)
