Have you ever wondered what it was like to "host" a young international student and expose your children to a new language and culture? Or, supplement their current language studies with someone from the target language country?
If your answer is "YES", then you are already a candidate for becoming a great host family.
Believe it or not, opening your home to someone from another country who needs the comforts of a temporary home can do wonders for rebuilding the American image. Students will return home with a new love for American family culture, and what's more, you might even have a home away from home if your travels ever take you abroad.
Becoming a host family for Everyday Interaction is a little different than most homestay organizations. We work mostly with minors--young high school students, and sometimes even middle school students. In order to make sure the student and family is compatible, we employ a three-step process, which entails a simple interview, background check, and a "Family Profile" form that we ask you to fill out. We do this because we want our international families to feel completely at ease with their child's temporary guardian.
If you are curious about helping to rebuild the American image, but are afraid of the amount of time and money it might take to open your home, there is more good news. This program is only for some weekends and holidays throughout the year, totaling around 65 days total. Further, it is a paid opportunity, to cover the expenses of hosting an additional person in your home.
We are in need of wonderful host families who have a passion for culture, and who would view opening their home to an international student as an opportunity. If you are interested, please contact a coordinator at: homestay@everydayinteraction.com, and ask for the "Host Family Profile".
You can also visit our website at: http://www.everydayinteraction.com/host-family/become-a-host-family and read about the guidelines for becoming a host family.
If we all do our small part to rebuild the American image, it WILL make a difference!
Sincerely,
Jamie
