Here are the top three stories today in and around Cumming:

  1. A team of Lambert High School students were named winners for aerospace and aviation at the 2022 Conrad Challenge Innovation Summit at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The challenge encourages students around the world to work in teams over the duration of a school year to discover innovative solutions and products to help solve issues within the realm of rocket science. Lambert students Ishan Mahajan, Sarvesh Prabhu, Srirag Tatavarti and Varnica Basavaraj started a company called AstraCell to help improve space travel. (Forsyth County News)
  2. Calling all antiquers. Lakewood 400 Antiques Market is hosting an antique show this weekend, Aug. 19-21, located at 1321 Atlanta Highway in Cumming. The market has 75,000 square feet of indoor shopping for antiques and vintage items, plus an outdoor area and restaurant. The hours are 9-5 Friday, 9-6 Saturday and 10-5 Sunday. (Lakewood Antiques)
  3. A Cumming man found sleeping in a parked car in Dunwoody was recently arrested for possession of opium and fentanyl. The man was found at about 1:30 a.m. on July 26, sleeping in a Mercedes Benz parked off Perimeter Center East, according to Dunwoody Police. Officers discovered that the vehicle's owner was wanted in Forsyth County and found drug paraphernalia and narcotics in the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the DeKalb County Jail. (Appen Media)

  • Vishnu Yella, a senior at Central Forsyth High School, helped revitalize an outdoor classroom primarily used by special needs children as part of his Eagle Scout project.
