MELISSA AND LEX ALEXANDER NAMED 2014 VOLUNTEERS OF YEAR

ATLANTA (Oct. 23, 2014) — Melissa and Lex Alexander, residents of Cumming, will receive the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s 2014 Volunteer of the Year award for their service at the Forsyth County Family YMCA. They will be honored at the annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 10, 2014.

The Alexanders work for Verizon Wireless. Melissa Alexander is an executive assistant and Lex Alexander is a network engineer. Melissa Alexander’s first connection with the Y was as a child in Nashville, Tenn.

“Our jobs give us the opportunity of doing more than volunteering,” said Melissa Alexander. “It allows us to fund YMCA programs. Once we have logged 50 volunteer hours, Verizon Wireless will match our time with a generous monetary contribution for each of us. This gives us the satisfaction of knowing our Y benefits from our time and efforts.”

The Alexanders volunteer for the Y swim team, the kids’ triathlon, member cookouts, senior events, family seasonal events, and other activities.

“Melissa and Lex join as a team when it comes to supporting the YMCA,” says Kerry Carithers, operations director. “They always have time to give an extra hand. The amount of time and passion they give to our YMCA is impressive and so helpful.”
