Here are the top three stories in Cumming today:
- The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day Saturday, Sept. 24 with a kids fishing event at the Lower Pool Park (below Buford Dam)
from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to teach kids to fish and help with bait and hook removal. A limited number of loaner poles will be available. Lower Pool Park is located at 3600 Buford Dam Road. (CBS 46 News) - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday to officially unveil various updates to Midway Park on Post Road, including a new playground, pavilion and enhanced athletic facilities. Constructed in 1982 and the county's second oldest park, Midway Park improvements included new inclusive and accessible playground, laser grading and new sod on diamond fields, new batting cages and bullpens, new pavilion with seating for 36, new flooring and interior/exterior paint for the Community Building, repaved and leveled park entrance and upper parking area, and sealed and restriped lower parking area. - Ever wanted to be a blacksmith? Well, Cumming Library is offering The Craft of Blacksmithing where citizens can explore the art of handmade crafts today from 2-3 p.m. In this program, Wind Chapman of the Long Mountain Living History Center will present a lecture and demonstration of the tools and processes used in blacksmithing. This shortcut is not replacing the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255), but will serve as an easy alternative for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.
