Here are the top three stories today in Cumming:

  1. A new animal hospital is coming to Forsyth County! West Forsyth Animal Hospital, located at 4350 Kelly Mill Road in Cumming, held an open house Saturday July 16 from 5-7 p.m. with a bounce house, taco food truck, coloring tent area, teddy bear sugary and an ice cream truck. Pet owners got a chance to meet the doctors and staff, tour the hospital and meet the vendors. On hand were Rucker Pet Training, Veterinary Emergency Group and the Humane Society of Forsyth County. West Forsyth Animal Hospital announced on its Facebook page that it's experiencing some permitting delays, but officials hope to open to the public very soon. Contact them at 678-648-6948 or contact@westforsythanimalhospital.com. (Facebook — West Forsyth Animal Hospital)
  2. Christopher Wayne Acker, the suspect arrested for an alleged home invasion earlier this year, has been indicted on seven counts by the Forsyth County Superior Court. Acker, 38, of Oakwood, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of home invasion in the first degree, two counts of false imprisonment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The indictment states the suspect forcibly entered the home occupied by two victims, assaulted both with a firearm, and "did unlawfully confine and detain [the victims] without legal authority." Acker has been in the Forsyth County Jail since February 8 and is being held without bond. (Forsyth County News)
  3. Authorities are investigating a case in which someone modified a check deposited at a mailbox in Forsyth County in early June. The victim, a Milton woman, said she had made out the check for $799 as payment on her credit card. Later in the month, she was notified by the bank that the check was made out to a person she did not know and that the amount had been changed to $20,156.33. She showed police a copy of the check, and there was no check number or routing number listed. The victim said she had contacted the post office, and Wells Fargo has closed her account.
