Here are the top four stories in Cumming today:

  1. Fall is in the air which means football is just around the corner. High school football kicks off next weekend and MaxPreps released its 2022 preseason rankings. After capping a 14-1 season with a 21-20 state title win last year, Buford comes in at No. 1. South Forsyth War Eagles, finishing 8-3 last year, comes in at No. 23. West Forsyth Wolverines, finishing 5-6 last year, ranks at No. 28. Denmark Danes, going 8-3 last year, is No. 37. (MaxPreps)
  2. Opa! The Cumming Greek Festival is back and will take place October 14-16 at Saints Raphael, Nicholas & Irene Greek Orthodox Church, 3074 Bethelview Road. There will be music, Greek cuisine and a live performance by the Greek dance troupe. Parking is onsite and free all weekend. Hours are Friday 3 - 9 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday noon - 5 p.m. (Cumming Greek Festival).
  3. Relay for Life of Forsyth County is hosting a night of entertainment with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The Songwriters Night for Charity will be held Saturday, August 20 from 7 - 9:30 p.m. at Legends Distillery, 210 Industrial Pkwy., Cumming. Ethan Phillips, April Rooks, Ken Forrester and Doug Harrell will be performing. (Relay for Life)
  4. The King of Camo is hosting a fundraiser Sept. 10 called Veteran Charity Motorcycle Ride with proceeds going to veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD. Participants will stage at The King of Camo, 3040 Keith Bridge Road A3, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 10, and the ride will begin at 12:30 p.m. The ride will have stops at Brimstone Tavern, Johns Creek Indoor Gun Range, Olde Towne Cutlery and NoFo Brewery.   • The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recognized Col. Carroll Edge for his advocacy for the Miracle League of Cumming/Forsyth County and the special needs community by naming the new Miracle League ball field coming Lanierland Park as Col.   • Forsyth County Public Library is looking for teenagers interested in serving on a Teen Advisory Board (TAB). This shortcut is not replacing the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255), but will serve as an easy alternative for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.
