Prisoner Escapes from Work Detail in Cumming

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and Cumming Police are working together to recapture Koby Blanchard.

Law enforcement is on the hunt for a man they say walked away from a jail work detail in Cumming on Friday.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Koby Blanchard was part of a detail at the Cumming Police Department’s headquarters on Friday when he walked away from the detail and escaped. Police notified the Sheriff’s Office, which is now taking over the search for the escaped prisoner.

Blanchard has been charged with burglary, arson, and theft in the past, says the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities do not believe that Blanchard is armed or that he is a danger to the general public at this time. Law enforcement is coordinating with school safety personnel, but there are no known threats to any local schools due to Blanchard’s escape.
