Protesters Outside Cumming City Hall Decry City Insurance Scheme
Residents are angry that some non-city employees, including the mayor's girlfriend, are getting insurance on the taxpayer's dime.

Protesters gathered outside Cumming City Hall on Tuesday to show their displeasure over a health insurance scandal that may have brought the attention of the FBI to the city.
Holding signs such as, “I’m not a city employee but I get free healthcare for mayoral favors,” and “I’ll be the mayor’s girlfriend for free healthcare,” the protesters blasted the city’s misuse of taxpayer funds to pay for health insurance for Mayor H. Ford Gravitt’s girlfriend and City Attorney Dana B. Miles, neither of whom are city employees.
Last month, Councilman Rupert Sexton discovered that Angela Mullinax was on the city’s list of health insurance recipients despite never holding a job with the city; her premiums have cost city taxpayers $75,000 since she began receiving benefits in 2005.

After the list of health insurance recipients was leaked online, Gravitt instigated impeachment proceedings against Sexton for “releasing private information.”
Despite Gravitt’s move to impeach Sexton, he has admitted on camera that his long-time girlfriend has been receiving insurance coverage from the City of Cumming. Gravitt said Mullinax was given the coverage due to her various contributions to the city over the years.

The FBI has allegedly begun interviewing people connected to the allegations, but it is standing bureau policy to not comment on an ongoing investigation, nor to officially confirm or deny that such an investigation is taking place.
