Here are the top stories in Cumming today:

  1. Governor Brian Kemp announced Friday that every full-time public school teacher in Georgia will receive a $125 supplement to help them transition their students back to in-person learning. The funds will be provided through the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Program, a federal pandemic-relief fund established by Congress in 2020. The money will also go to school staff members who work to provide instructional and supportive services directly to students. The money can be used to buy materials, supplies, or other items that can be used to supplement classroom materials, address learning loss or mitigate the spread of COVID-19. (US News)
  2. Forsyth County will be getting a new library next year located on Fowler Road next to Denmark High School. The Forsyth County Library Board approved the 9.5-acre Denmark Library capital project budget and expenditures totaling $13.1 million. Officials are also planning to construct a covered amphitheater behind the library that can be used for programming or rentals (Forsyth County News).
  3. Cole Kirouac, a rising junior at North Forsyth High School, received two in-state offers to play college basketball. The first offer came from Georgia State when head coach Jonas Hayes extended the offer with the hopes of getting Kirouac on campus. His second offer came from UGA. Kirouac is listed as a 6'10" forward. (247 Sports).
