Here are the top four stories today in and around Cumming:

  1. Forsyth County and metro Atlanta restaurants are gearing up to support CURE Childhood Cancer with special events throughout the month of September. Restaurants will be hosting sales and events to support the Georgia-based charity for National Childhood Awareness Month. Check the link for all the local deals. (Reporter Newspapers)
  2. Friday Night Lights kicks off Week 4 with some marquee matchups in Forsyth County. North Forsyth (2-1) heads to Canton to take on Creekview (0-3). Harrison (1-2) travels to Denmark (1-1) in the teams' first ever meeting. Cambridge (2-1) will take on West Forsyth (1-2) in Cumming. Harvester Christian, seeking its first win, will play Pinecrest Academy (1-1) at Pinnacle Field. Central Christian (1-1) takes on Fidelis Christian (1-1) at Joint Venture Park. Undefeated King's Way Christian (2-0) will head to Warrior Field to take on Horizon Christian (1-1). (Forsyth County News)
  3. There is a good possibility Alpharetta and Milton residents will be able to tune in for a Sen. Raphael Warnock/Herschel Walker U.S. Senate race debate next month. Warnock said that he will participate in the debate Walker prefers if Walker agrees to another forum Warnock wants. This would result in two debates. Georgia's Senate race is one of the most closely watched in the country as Republicans try to take back control of Congress. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  4. Forbes magazine released its America's Top Colleges list Aug. 30 and the University of North Georgia ranked fifth among public universities in Georgia. UNG was one of only six public universities in Georgia to make the list, which included over 500 schools nationally. The university ranks 209th among all public universities on the list and 96th among both public and private universities in the South. (News at UNG)
