When it comes time to sell your home, curb appeal is obviously something we hear a lot about. As with many things in life, that first impression can often mean the difference between success and failure. Still, once the buyer’s initial feeling passes the test, the next thing that will greet them is your entryway—so it’s important to make it memorable.
If you think about it, this space in your home serves as the transition between the outdoors and indoors, so it can leave an important impression in the mind of any buying suitor. In other words, use your entry space to define the quality of your property. If it emanates richness and style, buyers are more likely to approach the rest of your home with the same mindset and be willing to make offers accordingly.
Conversely, if the entrance is shabby and ill-kept, no matter how put-together or immaculate the rest of the home appears, that initial sense of disenchantment will be what sticks with the buyer throughout their tour.
Therefore, when looking to set the right tone with your entryway, start with picking out flooring which is different from what can be found throughout the rest of the house. Generally, tile is always a smart choice (whether granite, marble, ceramic, or synthetic) and in reality, it doesn’t really matter what type you choose because they all help to send the right message.
After the flooring, look for lighting which will help raise the value of your property. Fancy lighting is a luxury, so you want your buyers to feel like they’re purchasing a lavish home. Chandeliers are always a great idea and they remain something which you can search for at local garage sales and flea markets if you’re hoping for a deal.
From there, decorate accordingly. Feel free to add plants and an area rug for a warm feeling, and look for a unique chest or console table to really anchor the area. When painting, use a neutral color which will flow into the other rooms of the house and if nothing else, make sure the area is clean and sparkling so you can wow all of those buying eyes!
