Sheriff Piper Accepts Ice Bucket Challenge

Duane K. Piper joined the North Forsyth Rotary Club in the challenge to raise money and awareness for ALS.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane K. Piper accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as a member of the North Forsyth Rotary Club.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, Piper had received several challenges from other people who had taken part in the fund and awareness raising campaign for ALS. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive and ultimately fatal degenerative neurological condition.

Piper joined his colleagues at the North Forsyth Rotary Club for a mass dunking. Before they were bathed in ice-cold water, the club issued a challenge to their brethren at the South Forsyth Rotary Club to do the same,

The North Forsyth Rotary Club has donated $500 to benefit the ALS Association, the overall sponsor of the Ice Bucket Challenge. So far, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised $31.5 million for the ALS Association since it was launched in late July, walloping last year’s donation figures for the same time period.

Deputy Robin Regan was also challenged and performed his ice water dousing earlier this week.
