Suwanee Teen Loses Foot in Lake Lanier Boat Accident

Investigators say the boat's operator, from Cumming, was under the influence of alcohol.

SUWANEE, GA -- A Suwanee teenager suffered severe injuries to his feet, including a "complete amputation," after a boating accident on Lake Lanier Saturday.

Authorities believe Shane Malloy, 19, fell out of a boat being operated by another teen who was under the influence of alcohol, the Forsyth County News reports.

Hall County Sheriff's deputies responded at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to reports of an injury at Bolding Mill Park.

A spokeswoman told the News that one of Malloy's feet was amputated and the other had severe lacerations. Deputies suspected alcohol was involved in the incident and notified Department of Natural Resources officers.

"Upon further investigation by DNR, it was determined that the operator of the vessel was impaired," Deputy Nicole Bailes said.

William Craven, 19, of Cumming, was charged with boating under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation of a vessel, having insufficient personal flotation devices and littering.

He was transported to Hall County Jail, where he posted an $8,300 bond.

Investigators were still trying to determine exactly what happened leading up to the incident.
