Here are the top stories in Cumming today:
- University of North Georgia had a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday to celebrate the expansion of the school's Cumming campus. Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow joined Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, UNG President Bonita C. Jacobs, state Sen. Steve Gooch and county and university leaders for the ceremony. The 27,300-square-foot addition will allow for more bachelor's degrees in Cumming while providing a capacity for future enrollment of 2,200 students. Construction will begin early next year with the new space slated to open in fall 2024. (News at UNG)
- A new "no left turn" sign has been installed at the intersection of West Courthouse Square and West Maple Street across from Goodson Drug Company in downtown Cumming. The Georgia Department of Transportation approved the sign after discussing the problematic intersection with Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow for more than a year. Instead of making a left from West Courthouse Square onto West Maple Street, motorists will need to go straight through the light and then take a left onto Bank Avenue. (NewsBreak)
