Veterans Group Feeds Northside-Forsyth Healthcare Workers

CUMMING, GA — For the fourth time since the onset of COVID-19 in early 2020, members of the Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America have selected a day to feed all the Northside-Forsyth Hospital staff caring for COVID-19 patients in the facility.

For the first three meals, the veterans’ organization provided dinner consisting of chicken wings and sides for dinner for the two 12-hour shifts of nurses, doctors, and other health workers in the COVID-19 wards when the virus was at its worst in Forsyth County.

The latest meal, for about 100 people, served on Oct. 14 consisted of pulled pork and sides for the nurses, doctors and other hospital staff treating COVID-19 patients of varying degrees of severity at specialty wards throughout the hospital.

“Our members wanted to show their appreciation for the many challenges these caregivers had to confront during the pandemic with long shifts, short meal breaks and high patient counts," Chapter 1030 President Gary Goyette said. "Our guys know from their days in uniform that a short break to enjoy a warm meal is always valued.”

The chapter partnered with Rooster’s Café on Atlanta Road for the food. Rooster’s fully covered the cost for the first meal and provided the remaining three to the chapter at cost. Goyette expressed his gratitude to Rooster’s for their long-standing and ongoing support of the organization.

The Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at AA Driving Academy, 432 Canton Highway. All Vietnam era veterans are welcome to attend.
