ALPHARETTA, GA — More heartbreaking details have been unearthed by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety in connection to Monday's murder-suicide.

The victims, who were related, have been identified as Ruth Reissiger, 61, of Foley, Alabama, and 38-year-old Dacula resident Elizabeth Reissiger.

Alpharetta public safety spokesperson George Gordon said Ruth Reissiger was Elizabeth's mother. Elizabeth Reissiger, Gordon added, was "severely mentally impaired."

"For reasons that we may never understand, Ruth took the life of her daughter before taking her own life," he added.

Both women died after they were found Monday, March 20, inside a hotel room at Homewood Suites on Davis Drive.

Alpharetta officers responded around 1:20 p.m. to the hotel to conduct a welfare check on the occupants of the room. Once those cops arrived on the scene, they entered the room and found two victims with gunshot wounds.

One woman was pronounced dead inside the room and the other was transported to North Fulton Hospital in critical condition. That woman passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital's emergency room, Gordon added.

"We know you are a caring community and we wanted to share with you as you will undoubtedly hear about these revelations," Gordon continued in a statement, which was also shared on the agency's Facebook page. "[The] family has been notified and our hearts are with them during this difficult period."
