More DeKalb County mosquito traps test positive for West Nile virus (fox5atlanta.com) — Mosquito traps monitored from Decatur have tested positive for West Nile virus in several DeKalb communities, including nearby Belvedere Park, Candler-McAfee, Lithonia, Stonecrest, Tucker, and Chamblee, though no human cases are confirmed. Residents in and around Decatur are urged to stay vigilant about standing water, use mosquito protection, and can call DeKalb Public Health's Environmental Health division with questions or concerns.
   

2. Restaurants win $40K in Decatur Development Authority grants (decaturish.com) — Decatur's Downtown Development Authority has awarded more than $40,000 to local restaurants and shops for facade upgrades, interior buildouts, and marketing support, with a second grant round coming in early 2027. Businesses like Green Ginger, Decatur Glassblowing, Chai Pani Decatur, and several boutiques are getting help to improve their spaces and attract more customers, while substantial funds remain for future applicants.
   

3. Week five delivers high-scoring wins (thechampionnewspaper.com) — Decatur High's football team rolled to a 48–0 win over Meadowcreek, one of nine big-scoring victories for DeKalb County programs in week five. Local fans also get a full rundown of scores and a detailed schedule of upcoming games across DeKalb stadiums, including several matchups you can attend this weekend.
   

4. DeKalb aims to protect its tree canopy (wsbtv.com) — DeKalb County is tightening its Tree Protection Ordinance, a move Decatur residents should watch closely since similar rules have already reshaped development in the city. Officials say new standards aim to curb canopy loss from construction, and residents are being invited to public meetings, including one Oct. 7 at Tobie Grant Recreation Center, to weigh in on how strict the updated rules should be.
